Why Slowing Down Feels So Hard (Even When You're Exhausted)

One thing I have noticed recently is that so many women are saying the same thing:

"I'm just so tired."

Not just physically tired.

Tired from carrying the mental load.Tired from always thinking ahead.Tired from being needed by everyone.Tired from never truly switching off.

Recently, I asked my community what they were struggling with most, and the answers were clear: sleep struggles, feeling flat, burnout and running on empty.

And honestly, it didn't surprise me.

So many women are living with a level of constant stress that has become their normal.

Why are we feeling this way?

Modern life asks a lot of us.

Between family, work, relationships, household responsibilities and the invisible tasks that often fall onto women, there is very little space left to simply be.

We keep moving from one thing to the next.

And while we may tell ourselves we will slow down when things calm down, often that moment never arrives.

Our nervous system adapts to this pace.

Being busy becomes familiar.

Being "on" becomes normal.

Why can't we just relax?

Many women tell me:

"I know I need to rest, but I can't switch off."

"I'm exhausted, but I can't sleep."

"I finally have time for myself, but I feel guilty."

This is because slowing down is not always as simple as deciding to stop.

When our bodies have been under stress for a long time, our nervous system can stay in a state of alert, even when we desperately want to relax.

The answer isn't always doing more.

Often, it's learning how to create safety again.

Healing starts with creating space

We are often taught that the answer is to push harder, be more organised and keep going.

But sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause.

To give our body a chance to breathe.

To step away from constantly managing, achieving and caring for others.

This is why support can be so valuable.

Sometimes we need someone else to help us slow down enough to reconnect with ourselves.

Through my 1:1 healing sessions, I support women who are feeling overwhelmed, exhausted or disconnected from themselves, creating space to release stress and restore balance.

I also created The Gentle Reset as a beautiful group experience for women who are craving a moment to pause, reconnect and recharge through meditation, Reiki, reflection and connection.

Because slowing down isn't losing momentum.

It's creating the foundation to move forward in a way that feels healthier and more sustainable.

When "I'm fine" doesn't actually mean fine.

Lately, something has been coming up a lot in sessions, and I’ve found myself noticing just how often we all do this. Someone asks how you’re doing and without even thinking… you say: “I’m fine.” Auto
