When "I'm fine" doesn't actually mean fine.

Lately, something has been coming up a lot in sessions, and I’ve found myself noticing just how often we all do this.

Someone asks how you’re doing and without even thinking… you say:

“I’m fine.”

Automatic.

Almost like muscle memory at this point.

But if we’re being really honest (and sometimes honesty is a little inconvenient), “I’m fine” can actually mean something more like:

  • I’ve got a lot going on right now

  • I’m exhausted but I’ll deal with it later

  • I know I need a break but everything else feels more important

  • I’m holding way more than I probably should be… but here we are

And honestly… I think many of us have just become really, really good at carrying on.

We keep showing up.

We keep pushing through.

We tell ourselves “I’ll slow down next week.”

And then next week somehow turns into six months.

Funny how that happens.

Sometimes Stress Becomes So Normal We Stop Noticing It

One thing I see often, especially with women, is that we get so used to operating in go-go-go mode that being stressed starts to feel normal.

Your nervous system gets so familiar with constantly being “on” that slowing down can actually feel… uncomfortable.

Sometimes even a little uncomfortable and guilt-inducing.

(Why do we feel guilty for resting? I’d love to have words with whoever came up with that.)

The thing is, when we stay in that state for long enough, stress doesn’t just live in the mind.

It starts living in the body too.

And over time you might notice things like:

  • Feeling overwhelmed by small things

  • Struggling to properly switch off

  • Constant overthinking

  • Feeling emotionally heavy for no obvious reason

  • Carrying tension in your body all the time

  • Feeling tired… but somehow still wired

Sound familiar?

So… How Are You Actually Feeling?

Instead of automatically asking yourself:

“Am I fine?”

Maybe try asking:

  • How am I really feeling right now?

  • What do I actually need today?

  • Have I been ignoring what my body has been trying to tell me?

  • When was the last time I genuinely slowed down?

Sometimes we become so used to functioning on autopilot that we stop checking in with ourselves altogether.

This Is The Work I Do Every Day

A big part of the work I do at Healing Lotus Hands is helping people gently come back to themselves.

Through sessions using Reiki, Emotion Code, Body Whispering and Access Bars, I support clients in regulating their nervous system, releasing stored emotional stress, and finding a sense of calm again… mentally and physically.

Because sometimes healing isn’t about doing more.

Sometimes it’s simply about creating enough space for your body to finally exhale.

(And no… a five minute scroll on your phone while answering emails does not count as rest. Nice try.)

A Gentle Reminder

As we move into the slower months of the year, this is just a little reminder to check in with yourself.

Not the automatic answer.

Not the answer you give everyone else.

The real answer.

And if lately you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, emotionally heavy, or like your body has been carrying more than it should…

I’m here if you need support.

Be gentle with yourself.

You deserve the same care you so freely give to everyone else 💛

— With gratitude, Sylvia
